New Katheryn Winnick – Vikings season 5 video teases Lagertha’s story
In the video below, Winnick describes where we are going to see Lagertha at the start of the season — she is currently in a significant position of power. She’s ruling over Kattegat, and she’s smart enough to know that following the old ways and patterns is not going to be a way for her to succeed and build the city into and even greater hub. She has to forge a new path, one that could lead to a greater sense of happiness and sustainability. She wants to be an intellectual leader which is something that that some of the other kings before her were not, but as we know, people don’t like change and there will certainly be people looking to overthrow her.
Although this show is based on actual viking history, the network is still keeping coy on some of the finer details concerning what’s coming up. Let’s just tease the upcoming story by saying that, (in theory) we do think that Lagertha’s idea is a smart one just because it is always beneficial as a way to grow the city. Also, by changing things up she can try and disarm people — you want them thinking in one way so that you can surprise them by doing something that is the opposite. We have seen her do this in the past and it’s worked out well for her – she is after all on the throne.
Also, does it really do anyone any good to cause more bloodshed? Clearly, Lagertha wants to be a part of the solution more so than a part of the problem. It’s a smart move for her to avoid battles so that in the inevitable event that she needs an army (let’s be honest — it’s going to happen), they’ll be rested, trained, and prepared for whatever is coming. You don’t want them weak, tired or outmatched. There are many other ruthless characters out there, and we we know that Lagertha’s battles are not done. She’s won the throne, but now she has to keep it.
Casting all of that aside, Winnick’s performance alone is well worth the time to tune in — the battle sequences are often just the icing on the cake.
