The Good Doctor episode 7 video: Shaun Murphy’s quick diagnosis

One of Dr. Shaun Murphy’s many gifts on The Good Doctor is being able to identify and correct medical problems. In the sneak peek below from episode 7, what you see is a diagnosis and a story for him that does hit home more than most.

After all, in this sneak peek you see Freddie Highmore’s character walk in on a new patient being brought in to the hospital, someone who is acting and lashing out towards those who are surrounding him and prodding him with various instruments. They all think that he’s mentally unstable and needs to be properly sedated — they are wrong. Murphy recognizes what is going on here due to his own experience as someone with autism. The patient is autistic, and as a result of that struggles with people touching him. He is able to make that diagnosis and presumably from there, helps to expedite the process of giving this man proper care.

One of the main storylines pushed within this episode is going to be seeing how Shaun handles a case that may hit a little more close to home than some others that he has dealt with. Will he be able to forge a connection with this patient and what takes place as a result of that? There are many good things that could come from this given that relating to others is not always Shaun’s greatest strength. Of course, with this he could also end up becoming overly protective of the patient as well.

This is the right time to bring in this sort of storyline, mostly in that through the first six weeks The Good Doctor has developed and routinely tested Shaun in a wide array if different avenues. This is something that you do want to continue to do as time goes on, mostly due to it being so essential to keep finding ways to make the show evolve and throwing the characters into new, exciting challenges. You want to see some of the show’s characters at their best, but in order to do this, sometimes you also need to see them at their worst. This episode of The Good Doctor should allow for an opportunity to see both of these different things in one form or another.
