The Good Doctor episode 7 preview: Shaun Murphy’s relatable case

“Dr. Shaun Murphy has to confront prejudice from an unlikely source when he takes on the case of a patient with autism, and Dr. Jared Kalu has to learn to accept his limitations as a surgeon.”
Everyone does want to hold firm on (some level) to that idealistic viewpoint that there is no prejudice in the world and that we’re all on the same page, but that is very rarely the case. Often those with autism (or other challenges in the mental/behavioral space) are discriminated against on a widespread level and don’t have a voice or representation to speak out against it. The message in this episode could and should be powerful; this show offers up an opportunity to tell one of these stories through the lens of characters who know about this from a very personal level.
As for the Dr. Kalu storyline the biggest thing that we can say about it is that this is a struggle that many surgeons go through — and the same can be said for many other people who work within high-powered professions. It can be very difficult to turn off that part of the brain where you think you can do everything. All of us go through learning experiences. This could be a chance for that to happen.
