Supergirl season 3 episode 6 video: Why now is the time for ‘Midvale’

Supergirl season 3 episode 6

There are times when we all need to be able to just turn off the brain, kick back, and watch a great TV show. At the moment, Supergirl season 3 episode 6 entitled “Midvale” really could not get here quickly enough.

CarterMatt doesn’t want to get too far down the rabbit hole, but one of the reasons why we want the show back is because in the wake of all of the headlines this week regarding a producer’s suspension, we want to have an opportunity to be able to sit back and appreciate the work of everyone else who worked on the show. He was not one of the writers on “Midvale” and this will serve as a nice break from all of the drama. Kara and Alex are heading home, and that brings us to our next point: Story-wise, we all need a breather from some of the craziness in National City.

Supergirl is coming off of one of its most difficult episodes of the season. It’s one where Alex and Maggie broke up, and given what the Sanvers relationship meant for so many people it’s understandable if there are delicate emotions there. While it may have been Floriana Lima’s decision to leave the show and she was far from forced out, Supergirl still needs to earn some of the trust of the fans who were so invested in that story.

The best thing for them to do is to focus back in on what really matters the most: Heading back home to where Alex and Kara’s story as sisters really began so many years ago. This is going to be a very different sort of episode — there could be many regular cast members taking a week off; instead, the focus will be on a mystery from Kara and Alex’s past being re-explored and there being some surprises along the way. It also does seem as though  Erica Durance is going to be coming back on the show in some shape or form. This could be especially important — given that Laura Benanti was recast in this role earlier this summer, it was a fair assumption that there was a larger use being planned for this character.

“Midvale” is an episode about family, and about understanding the best way to care about one another. As much as we may want to see Reign and Supergirl at odds — let alone Reign starting to understand her true destiny — there is something equally exciting about getting to see a story so personal on a show that is often amped-up and focused so much on people with powers.
