The Fosters exec has idea for series finale in mind

Fosters season 5 summer finale

We’re a couple of months out now from The Fosters season 5 returning to Freeform, and with that, we of course do understand that the thirst for a season 6 renewal is out there. Why wouldn’t it be? This is a beloved show with a loyal following and it only makes sense that you would want more. We’ve seen many campaigns out there to save the show — we’ve also written about some of these efforts at CarterMatt in the past.

While we are choosing to remain optimistic on the subject of the show and its future, there is still an important subject matter to discuss: What happens in the event the show isn’t picked up? Is there going to be a proper ending for the series? Based on what executive producer Bradley Bredeweg notes in a post on Twitter below, it does seem like there is one. He notes that they have “always had a plan for the final episodes,” no matter when they end up airing it.

This brings us to our next order of business: Freeform hopefully having the courtesy to let the writers and producers know in advance when the show is going to be coming to an end. They need to give the writers advance warning so that they can cater the story to that proper ending. With that in mind, now is about the time when they need to hand down word — and it’s probably cutting it close even if they do that now. The scripts are far ahead of where the show is in production, and there are only a handful of season 5B episodes left to film.

For the time being though, these concerns are likely much ado about nothing. All signs point to a Fosters renewal, even if it is for a sixth and final season. The ratings are still good by network standards, the fan base on Twitter is very much there, and with Freeform expanding their programming outward to other nights, they have more spots on the schedule to fill than ever before. (This is something you can read more about by visiting the story here.)

When The Fosters does end, we anticipate that it is going to be everything that you could possibly want from this show — sweet, touching, poignant, and also optimistic. It doesn’t feel like the powers that be would have it any other way.
