Saturday Night Live – Tiffany Haddish promo: Don’t push the button!

Tiffany Haddish promo

Want to see the first Tiffany Haddish promo for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live? If you do then you are most certainly in the right spot!

If you look below (via NBC), you can see what is a pretty humorous promo that’s different than most of the others we’ve seen. Rather it being a series of small clips, it’s one extended scene featuring Haddish and cast member Aidy Bryant — we’ve seen SNL do more of this as of late as a means to look more towards the internet for promotion. Someone over at the network was smart enough to realize this is where the real viewership is going to come in 2017.

The premise of this new promo works as well: There is a giant red button apparently in Studio 8H, and under no circumstances should Haddish touch it. Of course, this made her want to touch it more despite promising that she wouldn’t.

Was the end result of this gag worth the time spent getting to it? Well, that’s probably up for debate — yet, you can argue that with many SNL sketches overall. You spend a lot of time getting to the payoff only to get something completely random and sometimes nonsensical. You definitely get that here since the button didn’t exactly do anything to send the studio into ruin.

But, kudos to Haddish for being game — this is what we want to see for the show! She has a whole lot of fans through Girls Trip alongside the standup circuit, but by and large she is one of those hosts we’d categorize as an up-and-comer. We’re not sure how many in the mainstream are super-familiar with her work at the moment … hopefully that changes after this.

For those of you looking for your first glimpse at Taylor Swift as the musical guest, she’ll likely be in the NBC promos released later in the week. Given her star power she’ll likely be offered a chance to do a sketch or two if she wants to. Sometimes musical guests are interested in that, whereas other times they just want to focus on nailing the performances.

What’s your expectation of SNL with Haddish this weekend?
