Chicago Fire season 6 on set: Yuri Sardarov, Joe Minoso tease all things Otis and Cruz
For Yuri’s Otis, it does appear that we’re on the cusp of a big storyline for his character! At the end of this past episode we saw him trying to convince Herrmann to acquire with him a local bar called Mac’s, which they could then turn into Molly’s North. Not only that, but he seemed to have an interest in the original bar owner’s daughter!
Showrunner Derek Haas mentioned to CarterMatt recently that the relationship between Otis and this new character would be a key part of the upcoming story, and Sardarov confirmed that to us further:
“There definitely was a connection there. You’ll see that explored further. It’s always exciting to me when you get to meet a new actor and work with them … Ariana [Rinehart] came in and she was so charming as this character. She fits right in.”
Minoso also expressed his satisfaction at some of Cruz’s recent storylines, which include his suspension at the end of season 5 coupled with him getting a chance to do some fun stuff (including with his brother Leon) so far this season:
“I’ve done stuff on this show with this character that is so across the spectrum — drama, comedy, and even effects work and stunt work. It’s hard for me to imagine where we can go. Whatever comes my way I’ll be happy to do, but I’m more than happy to be an actor who gets to do everything on this show.”
Chicago Fire is now on hiatus — while there is no confirmed return date as of yet, the plan is to do a run of five more episodes before the Winter Olympics start up on NBC.
Bonus scoop
Yuri made it clear that you could see Otis’ firefighting robot from earlier this season again — even if it wasn’t all that good at putting out any fires the first time around.
