NCIS season 15 spoilers: Muse Watson returning as Mike Franks

Muse Watson

If you’re looking for an NCIS blast from the past, the news that CarterMatt has for you today should be right up your alley: Muse Watson is returning as Mike Franks!

In a new post on his official Twitter account (which you can see below), it’s confirmed that Watson will be making an appearance on the upcoming episode airing on CBS November 14. That’s not all that long to wait, and that gives you something more to look forward to.

Whenever you do see Mike Franks returning, though, there is one question that comes along with it: How will he be coming back? The writers have to get creative incorporating Watson given that his character is, sadly, no longer among the living. Mike Franks died several years back on the show and since that time, we’ve seen him incorporated via some flashbacks. There’s a very good chance that this could be, (once more) the right way for the writers to incorporate the character. Otherwise, you’re left with some sort of dream sequence and so much time has passed now where it’s hard to see who would be dreaming about him. That’s especially true when you start thinking about how there are only a select few people left who actually remember him, with Gibbs (Mark Harmon) being the most prominent one. These two had a history that stretches back for many years.

Unfortunately, CBS isn’t getting too specific as to why this character is coming back. Right now, all we know is that in terms of the case, an “NCIS person of interest in a bribery and fraud case is found murdered after a runner is led to his body by a strange voice.” One of the more interesting theories you could come up with here is that the mysterious voice at the center of this episode is an old recording of Franks — but who would want to use him for something as evil as leading up to a murder? It could be a cool twist, but it would be hard for the writers to come up with a way to incorporate it that made sense.

So long as you do like familiar faces from NCIS lore you should very much enjoy this episode. The last time Muse Watson appeared on the show was back in 2015 with the installment “Stop the Bleeding.” Kudos to the writers for actually finding quite a few different ways to incorporate him into the story even beyond the grave.
