NCIS season 15 episode 7 preview: Gibbs, Fornell team up

When NCIS season 15 episode 7 airs on CBS next week, you will have an installment that’s old-school like no other. You’ve got Fornell taking on a significant role in a case that stems back ten years, and you’ve also got a lot more David McCallum than you’ve seen as of late. Given that this is a case with such significant ties to the past, it makes sense that you would bring some of these classic players in to take part in resolving it.

The NCIS season 15 episode 7 synopsis CarterMatt has for you below does a good job at offering up a few more details regarding what this investigation will be about:

“Burden of Proof” – After a convicted felon swears the NCIS agency framed him for murder a decade ago, Gibbs begins his own investigation, starting with a new autopsy by Ducky. Also, Senior FBI Agent Fornell (Joe Spano) joins the team, since he was the lead investigator in the original joint FBI and NCIS case, on NCIS, Tuesday, Nov. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The intrigue with this episode comes from NCIS needing to (in some ways) investigate themselves. This is different from Gibbs and company grabbing their gear and hitting the trail for clues. They needed to look back at their own evidence and wonder if it is possible that they missed something along the way. If they did, that’s a blemish on NCIS; nobody is perfect, but with agencies like this there is a certain expectation that they need to be. This makes for a good episode mostly because you’re getting a chance to see a case where the unit’s own reputation is at stake. It reminds us that they are still just human underneath it all.

Is it also possible that this convicted felon is lying and has a larger plan to get NCIS to look into this case again? Certainly so; this wouldn’t be the first time that the show threw out a twist of this variety where nothing is as it seems. If that is the case though, the writers better have a good motivation for the “accuser” to want to bring these allegations out! It feels like if you’re a prisoner, the last thing you’d want to do is suggest something that leads to you facing even harsher consequences.
