We’ve seen already this on season of Law & Order: SVU some returning familiar faces in between Peter Hermann and Dean Winters. This was clearly a priority from new showrunner Michael Chernuchin to tap into some of the show’s nostalgia.
Now, all signs point towards this trend continuing with a few other people who you may remember from past seasons and episodes. The following names were announced as returning in a recent report via Entertainment Weekly — all of them are set to appear in an upcoming January episode entitled “Pathological.”
Tamara Tunie – She’s credited for more than 200 episodes as Medical Examiner Dr. Melinda Warner, and this will be her first appearance on SVU since departing the show as a series regular. It’s nice to have her back, especially since it makes perfect sense for this character to be back — there’s always going to be a place for a good Medical Examiner here and there if the team needs to figure out an appropriate cause of death. Call in an expert the know and trust!
Carolyn McCormick – McCormick’s appearances over the years as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet have been a little bit more varied — yet, she has been a part of the show since the early days! She first appeared all the way back in 1999 and last appeared in 2013.
Jenna Stern – Judge Elana Barth is back! Signs point to her being the judge presiding over the case given that it’s hard to imagine why else she would be coming back otherwise. Fun SVU fact — Stern has actually performed two roles on the show over the years, a title she shares with a number of other actors who turned up in the earlier seasons and then much later on down the road.
Hopefully, these three additions to SVU are only going to continue the trend of past favorites coming back — given that we’re talking about a show here with a 19-year history there is going to be no shortage of possibilities. They just have to find the ones best suited for a specific episode.
