The Originals season 5 spoilers: Nathaniel Buzolic will be back as Kol
While it was probably assumed by many out there that Buzolic would be returning, can you ever really be so sure with this show? You have to remember that it took far too long to get the Kol character on the series in the first place, and The Originals has managed to alter some of our expectations for the entire Miakelson family in some way or another. We didn’t expect to see Rebekah leave the show during the first season, and we certainly did not expect the arrival of Freya in the early going. This is without even mentioning seeing a Klaus love interest eventually surface in Cami — we miss Cami. Is it okay to like both Klaus/Cami and Klaus/Caroline? We hope so, since we do.
We’ve already reported here at CarterMatt that Claire Holt will be coming back as Rebekah for the fifth and final season, not that this should have been too much of a shock in the first place. Now, we can report (via Entertainment Weekly) that you’ll have a chance to see more of Buzolic, as well. What Kol’s role is on the final season remains to be seen, but like many other Mikaelsons, we imagine that it is starting off in a reasonably precarious position. He is isolated from much of his family, and will have to figure out if there is a way for him to reunite with them over time.
Beyond all of that, Kol is also going to need to figure out a way to determine what some of his own future will be. We’re sure that a part of it will involve his family, but he’s always had a flair for independence even more so than Klaus or Elijah. His happy ending, (if he gets one) will not be dictated by either of them. Yet, we’re sure that they will have roles to play in influencing his story. Do you really think that the family will be separated, (a consequence of defeating The Hollow) for the entirety of the season? Somehow, someway, they are probably going to find a way back to each other.
