Saturday Night Live star David S. Pumpkins getting Funko Pop figure
You can see the image above of Pumpkins (played by Tom Hanks), and this is coming just a few days after the David S. Pumpkins Halloween special first aired on NBC. What’s to like about this Funko? First of all, he actually looks like the original character. Sometimes with these Funko Pop figures you get a pretty good representation and then sometimes it looks a little bit like a dumpster fire. He’s got the signature suit, the hand gestures, and the perfect hair design.
Also, we are hoping that with this Pumpkins Funko that more figures based on some other SNL characters might come out. Who wouldn’t want to get a figure based on Stefon, Drunk Uncle, The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party, or many of the other notable characters born out of this show? While with some SNL figures it’s hard to imagine that you could get the rights for them (many are imitations of real people), it’s clear that there are some that seem like they’d be fair game.
The popularity of Tom Hanks’ character still feels like it’s pretty high. The David S. Pumpkins Halloween special did draw some pretty big ratings for NBC over the weekend, even if the reviews weren’t all together great. For the record, we actually did enjoy it more than some of the other critics out there. It was funny, charming, and while it wasn’t a perfect recreation of the original sketch that made the character famous, it could have been a whole lot worse. Let’s just be happy that we had something fun that was a celebration of the holiday.
The only thing that is somewhat a bummer about Funko releasing this figure now is simply that: They are releasing it now when they really should’ve put it out there a few weeks ago to make it the perfect holiday gift.
