Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 6 and the World Series effect

Is Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 6 new tonight on NBC? It’s a great question to ask, but unfortunately we are here to give you the bad news.

Due to the World Series airing on Fox, we are not going to have a chance to see Mariska Harigtay and the rest of the cast on a new episode of the show. While that’s absolutely a bummer since we love covering the series at CarterMatt, there are many reasons why this is probably the best move for NBC to make.

The biggest reason is easy to spell out: Ratings. This is a show that is charting very well right now towards a season 20 renewal, and as a result of that you don’t want to hurt yourself because of Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers in Houston Astros. In airing a new episode tonight, all NBC would be doing is hurting itself — most of the shows that aired last night dropped at least 15% and some close to 30%. There’s no reason to do this to yourself if you are a broadcast network.

Note that it’s not like SVU is losing an episode off of its count because of this decision — it will have the same order number, but will just have a new episode to air down the road when there is less ratings competition.

About SVU season 19 episode 6

If you missed the promo that aired last week for “Unintended Consequences,” you can check that out below! This episode is one that will feature a very complicated case where a rehab center is not doing what it should for women in need. Instead, it seems to be exacerbating their problems — hence one woman screaming (in the promo) that people should not come there. This is a tough case for the SVU given that there will be some people who show up and serve as possible proponents to the shelter. You do always have some people here and there who will preach that the center is doing good things — maybe they are lying, or maybe they are just such a small sample size and you’re not getting a chance to see some different viewpoints.

Either way, the SVU will be getting to the bottom of this courtesy of one Amanda Rollins, who will be going undercover to get some answers. Be prepared to see a powerful performance like no other courtesy of Kelli Giddish in this episode.

What do you think should lie ahead on SVU season 19 episode 6, and do you think that it was the right move for NBC to not air a new episode tonight? Let us know in the comments section below!
