Supergirl season 3 episode 5 preview: Is a Sanvers breakup upon us?

Floriana Lima's Maggie

Moving into Supergirl season 3 episode 5, there seems to be a very-tangible reason to be concerned over a Sanvers breakup as much as we here at CarterMatt don’t want to see it happen.

Much of this potential break up just starts with the fact that Floriana Lima is leaving the show. That’s been a move in the cards for many weeks now, and there hasn’t been a whole lot of evidence of this changing. She has said that she’d be open to returning down the road, but that’s it. At some point she’s going to leave, and this brings us to where we are in the story right now for these two characters: There’s some tension there. They seem to want different things out of their futures, and given that they were so in love and their eagerness to get married, maybe they didn’t have all of the necessary discussions — including as to whether or not they wanted kids down the line. While love is a great reason to get the ball rolling in marriage, many times, love is not enough before taking that big step – having some similar life goals (especially when it comes to kids) can be a major deal breaker for many. This episode will be big for assessing where the two are and what they want out of their future.

The Supergirl season 3 episode 5 synopsis below gives you a little more insight on all of this, plus also the return of one Adrian Pasdar as Morgan Edge.

When multiple children get sick from lead poisoning, Morgan Edge (guest star Adrian Pasdar) points the finger at Lena (Katie McGrath) and blames her creation of the lead bomb she made to save National City from the Daxamites. While Lena knows she never intended any harm, she fears there may have been a flaw in her design, leaving her responsible. Kara (Melissa Benoist) teams up with Samantha (Odette Annable) to clear Lena’s name, but it turns out to be harder than they thought. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) make a crucial decision about the future of their relationship. Kevin Smith directed the episode written by Eric Carrasco & Cindy Lichtman (#305). Original airdate 11/6/2017.

Can we go ahead and say that few guys play sleazy, corrupt, and awful anywhere near as good as Adrian Pasdar? The man is a treasure in that capacity. This is going to be a great story for Lena Luthor, though we figure the same could be said for Samantha Arias as we start to understand her place in the show more … before becoming Reign, of course.
