Will American Horror Story: Cult ratings set stage for season 8?

Are the American Horror Story: Cult ratings starting to turn around in a slightly more positive direction? Based on what we’re seeing right now, it definitely seems to look that way.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen the FX series start to level off in the numbers. This past installment drew in total a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic, which is equal to the rating that the show drew the week before and the week before that. With that being said, the show did most its lowest total-viewer rating of the season with 2.06 million watching overall.

As for what this means in terms of the show’s cultural impact, not all that much. American Horror Story is a show that always will get viewership, and it probably would be getting a lot more buzz and attention were it not for the fact that it was airing a season themed very much around a subject in the 2016 election that is so widely covered in other spots. We also do think that, to a certain extent, there are some people out there who are just sick of hearing about politics all of the time and are looking for more of a big-time escape.

As for the franchise’s overall future, one of the things that we know now with some confidence is that there is going to be an American Horror Story season 8 — that was ordered by FX a long time ago. Our hope is that with this installment, Ryan Murphy and the rest of the producing team will put a little bit more of their focus on something a little more separate from current events. These stories are what made American Horror Story so successful in the first place — this season is wild and especially terrifying at times, but we do like an escape as much as the next person. Politics are often so oversaturated at this point that this show doesn’t really tell us anything that we haven’t heard already in some other shape or form.

There are a small handful of episodes to go for American Horror Story, so we’ll see more of what lies ahead with those.
