Outlander season 3 episode 7 ratings preview: Will ‘Creme de Menthe’ win?

Outlander season 3 episode 7

We’ve done almost every other preview possible for Outlander season 3 episode 7, so why not look briefly at the ratings?

Sunday’s episode “Crème de Menthe” poses an interesting challenge for the Starz series — this is the first episode after the full Print Shop reunion, the most-anticipated event arguably in the history of the series. It would be understandable if there is some sort of viewer drop-off for the next new episode, at least in terms of live numbers, because the big scene has already happened. For some of the casual crowd (the ones who we know are out there, but we rarely ever hear from at CarterMatt), it’s a show that you can DVR for a week or two and binge when there’s more time. We’ve seen that with some other shows that are out there on the schedule.

Will it happen is this particular case? Is “Crème de Menthe” an episde that is going to find itself facing some sort of decline? We consider that possible. However, we don’t necessarily think it will happen.

The jump from Outlander season 3 episode 5 to episode 6 was pretty vast. Over the one-week hiatus the show picked up close to 120,000 viewers since the last time that it aired on Starz, and with 1.72 million in total, “A. Malcolm” set a new record for the network. Impressive, no? It just goes to show the power of the Print Shop. (We go into more detail about the ratings record over here.)

As of right now, our Outlander season 3 episode 7 ratings expectation is this: Around 1.7 million viewers. We think it’ll slide slightly just because it’s so unusual for a show to improve week after week throughout the season. What we’d personally like to see is around 1.75 million and another record shattered, but we’re keeping the bar a little lower since there’s no one-week hiatus for buildup and no singular event with the same amount of hype and anticipation behind it. We do think there will be some other records broken as we get closer to the finale, but we’re not quite there yet. If it breaks the record this week, no one will be happier to eat crow than us.

One of the things that could actually benefit Outlander more so than anything else down the road is the Thanksgiving holiday (when there are viewers who are off work) since this will give some of them a chance to catch up if they are behind for whatever reason. As mentioned, this probably helped with the buildup for the Print Shop. At the current rate that the show is building and improving (as mentioned), we don’t think hitting the 2 million viewer mark for the finale is necessarily all that far out of the realm of possibility. It’s something that could very well happen and we really want to see it happen.
