Should there be any Longmire season 6 cliffhanger at all?

Longmire season 6 cliffhanger

Could there be a Longmire season 6 cliffhanger ending, or will the final season on Netflix tie together every loose end?

This question is, at this point, a pretty sensible one to ask when you think a little bit about how the end of every single season has been cultivated: With some sort of enormous cliffhanger ending. Look at season 3, which concluded with the crazy Branch Connally moment. Then, season 4 made you wonder who is coming into Walt Longmire’s home, and season 5 brought you an ending where it looked as though Walt’s wrongful-death lawsuit was about to completely devastate his life forever. All of these endings generated a lot of discussion, but they symbolized something even more than that: This is the life way is for many of these characters. Do you think that Walt Longmire is actually going to go quietly? It seems as though there’s always some enormous source of stress in his life — he should be prepared for it at this point, and maybe that’s even a part of what helps him function.

The case for doing a Longmire season 6 cliffhanger of some sort, even if it’s with only one or two storylines, is simple: It’s probably more true to real life where things are always open-ended, and this may generate a little more buzz for movies down the road. The cast has made it clear that they would be game for more, and we would certainly love to cover them at CarterMatt. Of course, an interest in covering Longmire movies does not necessarily equal said Longmire movies being made. There are MANY different hurdles that would need to be jumped through in order for us to get to that point and we don’t exactly think as though we’re there right now.

On the flip side of this, the biggest case for tying up everything (fairly) neatly is also rather simple: You don’t know if there will be any Longmire movies! You want viewers to think that the journey was worth it and that characters are happy in the end. Plus, there could be a way to still have story for a movie down the road even if you tie everything up in a fairly-neat fashion here. A movie is not necessarily tied to having a cliffhanger ending — one may assist with the other, but that’s it.

One way or another, we should learn what the producers decided for Longmire season 6 when the show returns to Netflix next month.
