Ten Days in the Valley cancellation likely; ABC shifts Kyra Sedgwick series to Saturdays

Ten Days in the Valley

While a Ten Days in the Valley cancellation at ABC is not 100% assured as of yet, the network is doing all they can to suggest it’s coming.

Today, the network announced that the remainder of the Kyra Sedgwick series, effective immediately, is going to be moving over to Saturday nights as opposed to Sundays. It ahs routinely drawn 0.4 ratings in the 18-49 demographic in that spot as of late, and that was not enough in order for it to be assured that it would stick around there. This is a network that has been searching for some more guaranteed hits in this timeslot for quite some time now, but unfortunately all signs point towards them needing to continue their search elsewhere.

Here is what you need to know if you are hoping to continue having Ten Days in the Valley as a part of your regular TV schedule. Starting on December 16, the show will start airing again with two episodes starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. The following week on December 23 there will be an episode at 10:00, there will be one December 30 at the same time, and then the two-hour finale will come on ABC on Saturday, January 6 at 9:00. While there are certainly burn-offs that networks give to struggling shows, this one is incredibly brutal for so many different reasons. For one, you are being subjected into having to watch the show at the same exact time as the holidays are taking place, and by the time the show resumes airing, almost two months will pass.

Just in case you are wondering what ABC is going to do with that old timeslot, from now until November 12 they are looking to air new episodes of Shark Tank back to back. The American Music Awards will preempt the lineup on November 19, and more than likely ABC will leave that timeslot dormant, save for specials or the like, until the new year. Maybe at that point they will find something else to program in this spot, but good luck with that — Shark Tank is not a great lead-in for a scripted drama, and if we’re being 100% honest ABC really bungled all of this. They should have just decided to put Shark Tank on Fridays again and found new scripted programming for Sundays. As of right now, the decision to move Once Upon a Time to Fridays alongside Inhumans is bringing ABC some of their lowest Friday ratings ever. They were better off with things the way that they were.

What do you make of the Ten Days in the Valley likely cancellation?
