Early Stranger Things season 3 premiere date speculation; is it happening?

Stranger Things season 3

Is it too early to start looking ahead towards Stranger Things season 3 given that the second season is starting up on Netflix tomorrow? We don’t think so.

The first thing that we should note here is that officially, Netflix hasn’t given a green light just yet to another go-around of the science fiction / nostalgia-based series via the Duffer brothers. However, at the same time this feels more or less like a given at this point. This is a show that has an enormous fan following and is a heck of a lot of fun — it’s really perfect for airing at around this time of the year, which is why we’re so lucky that this is when the streaming provider decided that they wanted to bring the show on the air.

The show in some ways has been renewed unofficially, given that the guys behind the scenes in the Duffer Brothers are proceeding forward expecting that they will be making more of them. Ross Duffer said as much to Vulture recently, added that they are “thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out.” They don’t want to overstay their welcome, and want this to be a show every really enjoys for however long it sticks around; then, they will ride off into the sunset feeling like they’ve told the story that they want to tell.

We’d love to think here at CarterMatt that Stranger Things season 3 would premiere at some point in the fall of 2018, especially since there has to be a relative sense of urgency with this show more so than with some of the others that Netflix has. Just look at things from this vantage point: Stranger Things features a cast of young performers, and you want to be able to get them onto the show and performing before they get too old and the show loses some of that youthful innocence and magic.

On the flip side, the other things that you need to remember here is that Stranger Things is also the sort of show that needs time in order to make the stories great, and that includes putting it through post-production and making sure that visually it turns out to be the show we want it to be. That’s why it wouldn’t be a shock if we’re waiting until 2019 — remember that many other Netflix shows now, including Master of None, are taking longer than a year between seasons to make sure they are creatively stronger.

When do you think that the Stranger Things season 3 premiere date to be?
