Humor in Outlander this week: Caitriona Balfe & Sam Heughan; Fergus & Young Ian

Caitriona Balfe & Sam Heughan

Don’t we all need to have a little bit of a good laugh right now? We feel like that’s the case — it’s been a long week for many people out there, and while we’ve had a number of serious Outlander discussions we thought that this would be a good chance today to spread a little bit of fun and positive energy to get the day started.

After all, there are a couple of different things worth smiling about today when it comes to the show — starting with a sneak peek!

Fergus and Young Ian – The new video below was first posted by HollywoodLife, and what it features is a lesson in the “art of seduction” between the two aforementioned guys. In here, what we learn is that Fergus lost his virginity at the age of 15 — in what he describes as a “religious experience” between “two women and one moi.” It’s a really funny line, as is the idea of Fergus playing the 18th-century version of Will Smith in Hitch. Young Ian is still so innocent!

All it takes is this sneak peek for us to know that we’re going to love getting to see Fergus and Young Ian together — their relationship is worth a few laughs, and in general we do think we’re in a pretty great spot when it comes to the humor in Outlander. While there were of course many a passionate moment within “A. Malcolm,” there were also many funny moments played between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. (Somehow, we don’t think that either one of them are getting the credit they deserve for their performances in the episode.)

Some more fanfiction We posted recently a video that Harper’s BAZAAR did featuring Balfe and Heughan reading some show-related fanfiction, and as it turns out there’s also a part 2 of this out there. You can see the latest video over at the link here, and we continue to give these two performers all the credit in the world for being game to do this. Fanfiction is to us the truest sign of fan passion out there, and they’re able to have some fun with it while also being respectful of it. That’s nice given that there are some other venues out there who make a mockery out of it in a way that bums us out.

It’s the sense of fun and lightheartedness that Balfe and Heughan have working together that probably makes the show so strong; they know when to be serious, but they also recognize the uniqueness of their position and seem to be reveling in all of the cool things that they get to do. It only adds to their own relatability. Who wouldn’t be flattered that their characters are connecting with people so much that there is fanfiction out there about them?

Are you enjoying some of the Outlander humor out there in the world?
