Criminal Minds season 13 episode 5 video: How Shemar Moore returns

Shemar Moore is making his big return on Criminal Minds season 13 episode 5, and the video below gives everyone a reason to be excited about it.

This video (via Entertainment Weekly) shows you the heartfelt/super-emotional reunion between Moore’s Derek Morgan and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), who is dealing with one of the most traumatic situations in her recent history. Floyd Feylinn Ferell, (a character last featured a decade ago in the episode “Lucky”) is back and with this return it brings Garcia back to everything that happened to her right around that time, including the shooting that transpired. Luckily (pun intended) Derek will be back to help her face some of these painful emotions.

At first, it appears as though he is just there for her via phone; however, he then surprises her by showing up in the flesh and giving his favorite “baby girl” a hug. If you ever needed more evidence that he cares about her deeply, this is it.

This was a smart move by CBS to get Derek back for this episode in particular. When you consider some of what Garcia would be going through with Ferell coming back, she would need a shoulder to lean on and it’d be almost strange if Derek didn’t come back for this. He remains a part of the universe even if he’s not a series regular anymore, and we certainly don’t think that this is the final time we will see him on the show. It’s not as though we foresee him becoming a regular again in the near future — he has a new job over on SWAT — but with these two shows airing on the same network and both filming in Los Angeles, it’s a little bit easier for him to come back to Criminal Minds here and there than it would be for some other gigs that film in other parts of the country.

For now, we’ll see if there is some reason for Garcia to be legitimately afraid of her safety beyond just Ferell becoming a part of the narrative again. We’re sure that this will be a great showcase for Vangsness as a performer, but beyond that it’s too early to tell what the writers have in store. You can see the full synopsis here at CarterMatt over at the link here, but you should note that CBS has become incredibly secretive as of late when it comes to the number of details they’re giving away in regards to Criminal Minds and many other shows. The only thing we do know is that with Shemar’s schedule, odds are he won’t be staying put for any period of time longer than a single episode.
