Gotham season 4 episode 6 video: Michael Cerveris’ Professor Pyg is great

Gotham

You don’t have to wait any longer to see Michael Cerveris as Professor Pyg on Gotham because CarterMatt has a new preview all about his appearance for you right now!

In the sneak peek below, you can see a conversation between Professor Pyg, a bizarre criminal with a most unusual manner of presenting himself, and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) that is ultimately like no other we’ve ever seen. It’s strange, distorted, but also all sorts of entertaining. Professor Pyg believes that he and Jim, despite their very obvious differences, both share the same end goal in wanting to ensure that the “cancer” is cut out of the city — they both see the corruption within the GCPD and realize that something needs to be done about it. They just go about “handling” this corruption in very different ways to say the least.

So why is Gordon even listening to Professor Pyg and his maniacal ramblings? The easy answer is that he really doesn’t have all that much of a choice on the matter. He’s held hostage! Jim’s a master of dealing with these sort of situations and on some level, you have to just let them ramble on. You don’t have to agree with them, but you have to find your opening and that’s what Jim seems to be doing here.

When Professor Pyg was first announced to be appearing on Gotham this season it was somewhat of a surprise. This is a character that is pretty bizarre in terms of Batman villains, and probably not the easiest one to translate to television. Yet, it has been extremely effective based on what we’re seeing here. Cerveris is tremendous with his monologue and there’s something almost strange about just how still and stoic Jim seems to be listening to him. If this was back during season 1, do you think he’d be handling this situation the same way? It’s not every day that the average cop runs into a terrible villain who runs around wearing a pig head.

We know that Professor Pyg’s arc on Gotham is going to last for at least a couple of episodes, so be prepared for more chaos in the installment that follows this one — which, for the record, has the super-appropriate title of “Hog Day Afternoon” attached to it. Let’s see what unfolds here over the course of the hour, and if Gordon and the rest of the GCPD comes up with a clear plan to stop him.
