NCIS season 15, episode 6 review: Bringing awareness to Shane’s Inspiration

Last week’s episode of NCIS brought us a meaty story for Clayton Reeves and it pushed him into opening up more at his AA meetings. While we did learn a bit about some of Reeves’ past and his battle with addiction, it was (as most NCIS personal stories are) a small enough taste to hook us in, but not giving us the whole farm. What we really enjoyed seeing was how supportive the whole team was as they each found out what Clayton is going through.

Nick’s donation blunder

Tonight’s episode involved a really great charity called Shane’s Inspiration. They help build playgrounds so that children with special needs can also play (and if you want to know more about them and how you can donate yourself just head on over to the link here). Jimmy is trying to get the whole NCIS team to donate and everyone happily does. When Torres shows up to work (looking like he spent the night being dragged around town by the bumper of a cab) Jimmy manages to talk him into donating as well. Reeves tells him that everyone put in $40 already, so he decides to one up them and put in $50. After getting a huge hug from Jimmy (and learning that his credit card is over drawn) he realizes that he didn’t donate $50 it was actually $5000 and there goes his dreams of buying a new bike. Initially he tries to get his money back, but after seeing the kids playing at a new playground he decides to leave it with the charity.

Jack and the team

Jack has been trying to meet Abby for a while, but it’s been difficult since she’s been trying to avoid Jack. Why Abby has been trying to avoid her though isn’t exactly clear – we are assuming that Jack’s reputation has proceeded her, but today Jack catches her in the lab and they are able to find some common ground.

While Abby has questions about Jack, so does the rest of the team. Clayton has done a bit of digging into her past learning that she was part of the army in psychological operations, making the team a little more intimidated by her then they already were – except for Gibbs… he’s finding a way to mesh with her fairly well. If you are a Gibbs and Jack shipper, there really is some nice chemistry brewing between these two.

CarterMatt’s over all thoughts

It was nice to see Jack really working with the team on the case this week and seeing how she fits into all the different facets of the group (even though no one seems all that trusting of her just yet), but the highlight of the episode for us was the focus on Shane’s Inspiration. We love when shows bring awareness to charities like this and use their platform to do more then just give us the crime story of the week.
