Ink Master: Angels preview: Meet Whitney Havok, Graydon Payne, Nicholas Guevara

Ink Master: Angels

Ink Master: Angels is heading this week to the Emerald City in Seattle, and Whitney Havok, Graydon Payne, and Nicholas Guevara will be waiting. These three artists all bring some different things to the table and seem to be excited for the chance to take down each other — and eventually one of the Angels in the process.

Below, you can learn a little bit more about these three artists and what makes them special.

Whitney Havok – She actually owns the shop that the three contestants are competing in, which gives her an immediate advantage. This is her home turf! She’s been doing this for six years and she considers herself to be incredibly versatile. She’s also got a good story of working hard and achieving her goals in a very short period of time.

Graydon Payne – He’s the most experienced tattoo artist of the bunch this week with 13 years under his belt, and he specializes in doing large-scale tattoos with illustrative color. He does some beautiful work, and it turns out that he and Whitney have a history competing against each other.

Nicholas Guevara – He’s been tattooing for six years, his family is largely from Guam, and he does a lot of black-and-gray mechanical work. Like most other guys who have been on the show to date he’s extremely confident in his abilities.

The challenge that these three are facing in Seattle this week is really quite simple in theory: Trying to do some of the best elbow tattoos possible. The challenge is that this is not an easy part of the body to get done — the shaping is weird and you really have to drive some of that ink in there. It’s pretty easy to envision this going wrong for some people. We know that the judges and some of the other artists have some concerns about Nicholas’ approach in particular, since he seems to be easily the most outside-the-box out of the three. In general, though, what’s nice about the three artists taking part tonight is that they all seem to value art a great deal with much of the work that they do.

Without spoiling the end result of the tattoo in the video below, we will say here at CarterMatt that one of these tattoos feels significantly stronger than the others. That doesn’t mean that they will end up being that way the entire episode, but they are clearly off to a good start here.
