NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 4 review: Soho House and selfies
Why is that? Much of that just starts with the fact that we were watching an episode all about the arms trade, and even before the recent terrible real-life events these aren’t the sort of stories that appeal to us the most. Beyond just that, this was a rather easy case to celebrate: Sam and Callen teamed up with Mosley to investigate a $1 million weapons heist while at a charity event. They were technically undercover, while at the same exact time being able to go by their real names. In the end, what Callen and Sam figured out was that there was that there was a secret assassination plot at the center of the hour that had a politically-charged motive.
Here’s one thing we did love when it comes to guest stars: Seeing an appearance from Devious Maids standout Rebecca Wiscoky, even if she ended up being the bad guy who was behind much of the plot in the first place to keep the weapons trade from going south. Also, who else recognized Eddie George? We reported about his casting a while back!
One other interesting thing: Apparently Mosley can get into Soho House. Nobody can get in there!
The biggest thing that this, and many other middle-of-the-season / pre-sweeps NCIS: Los Angeles lack is a little more ingenuity. There are a few things that just felt humdrum and routine over the course of the episode and we won’t remember almost any of them save for the guest stars. Deeks, Kensi, Nell, and Eric didn’t have a lot to do over the course of this and that was a pretty epic bummer. Beyond that, we didn’t get much of an update when it comes to Hetty, and there was something very much left to be desired when it comes to the general case. This is a show that is in its ninth season. It’s had a long, fun, and at-times crazy ride, and we want to see it take a few more risks. Having Deeks try to get a selfie in a sports car is fun, but how else can you test that character?
The boat update
Sam and Callen are working on it — or, to be specific, Sam is working hard on it while Callen is offering up some more support and acting like he is more involved than he probably is in actuality. We want to see some updates with this story in the weeks ahead, mostly since this is a moment that Sam needs — and the same goes for his family — in order to move forward.
