Supergirl season 3 episode 3 sneak peek: Carlos Bernard in action
In the new sneak peek below for this installment, you can see a little bit more of the 24 alum’s character in action. Bernard is playing the part of Maggie’s father, a man who is seemingly brilliant in terms of his professional achievements but also deeply flawed with his personal ones. It doesn’t take all that long in this preview for you to start to get a sense as to why Maggie ended up in law enforcement — she clearly got it from her father. She makes it clear to him that she studied virtually everything that he ever taught her and holds it close, and that’s why she is able to pick apart crimes scenes and understand evidence in a way few other people can.
There are clearly some important things that Maggie’s father taught her, and that is in turn probably what makes their time apart all the more saddening. He never approved of her sexuality and that caused there to be a huge rift between the two. The sneak peek doesn’t address the issue head-on, but there is a tangible awkwardness written in that is very well-played by both Bernard and also Floriana Lima. You can get a good sense that something between the two is amiss even if the two parties are never spelling it out exactly. This is akin to real life in many ways given that people are often not going to directly address some of the issues that are going on with them. Instead, they will find other ways for the time being to address some of what is happening before taking it on when the going gets tough.
Based on the sneak peek below and the photo above, we know that we’re getting Carlos Bernard for at least a few scenes. Here’s to hoping that in some way or another, we get a chance to see him again. He’s too good of an actor for us to not get to see him before this episode in some shape or form. It’ll be fun to write about this character and the performance when we review this episode of Supergirl on CarterMatt tomorrow night. The title here is “Far from the Tree,” which feels like a play on the expression “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” In this case, there are some clear differences between Maggie and her father and we’re curious to learn what some of the other ones are.
Excited for this episode, and for Carlos Bernard?
