Outlander season 3 episode 6 preview: One last look before ‘A. Malcolm’
You’ve waited for this episode. If you’ve read the book Voyager, you’ve probably waited for years! We’re not out to spoil anything that happens in it here, but we will say that you should be very satisfied with what you see. It’s a powerful, at-times beautiful look at many important characters that runs the gamut of emotions. There’s so much content packed in that it really does feel like a movie in its own right. (At almost 75 minutes it almost has that feature-lengthy quality to it.)
Of course, we’re chomping at the bit to share our full thoughts with you all about “A. Malcolm” — a review will be online the moment that this installment comes to a close on Starz! Think around 9:15 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, give or take.
The network is being somewhat more secretive here than with some other past installments. We looked to see this morning if there was a new sneak peek released for it yet; unfortunately, there is not. That’s a clear signal that they don’t want to give anything more away than what is already out there in some of the photos (view them all here) coupled with the video promo that you can see again below.
“A. Malcolm” is a story that serves many purposes, with the first and foremost being the reconnecting of Jamie and Claire Fraser after two decades a part. The reunion will be romantic, but also clumsy and relatable. Information and emotion will be passed along. This installment will show you where their heads are at regarding their relationship and their lives.
Simultaneously, “A. Malcolm” will also show you more of the struggles that do now await these two characters (played fantastically by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) as they try to find their place within 18th-century Scotland as a couple. The synopsis for the episode already established that some of Jamie’s past business dealings will come back to bite him. There is going to be a sense of discovery still within the story as new avenues are explored. Remember here that while we saw some of Jamie’s history at Helwater prior to Claire’s return through the stones, there is still a significant gap in his timeline that has not been explored. Maybe you see some of that in the form of flashbacks; or, maybe you see some of that through scenes that inform you of the past.
What transpires in this episode will be the jumping-off point for the later part of this season, which will be a voyage like no other. (We won’t say anything more for those extremely wary of spoilers — most readers and even some TV-only fans still know what we’re speaking about.)
While you wait — some recommended reading
One more thing we suggest that you look at now is the story here, given that you can get some new information on season 4 from executive producer Maril Davis!

Ok. So far as 307 and beyond in promoting the show, there is the infamous Turtle Soup episode, Jamie’s sea sickness and first experience with acupuncture which are terrifically comic in the books, and I am dying to see Sam and Cait provide the fun! Of course we have excitement with Ian and Mr. Willoughby and the tax man. There are so many scenes to come and so where the first half of the season is sad because of separation, there are many fun moments to enjoy as a couple. Cait spoke of coconuts in a scene, that has to be series only, but she seemed to think it amusing. We still get murder and mayhem but with the two of them together it’ll be fine. The Governor’s Ball and the new Governor meeting Msr. Allejendro and his wife. Oh Leghair and the shooting incident. So much fodder for stirring interest and excitement that no one will be disappointed or find the excitement hard to stir! Am I not looking forward to all of it? I want to live long enough to see it all and read it all! Can’t wait to read Book 9!
