Hawaii Five-0 season 8 episode 4 video: Junior Reigns training update

Beulah Koale

It’s been an episode since Junior Reign first surfaced on Hawaii Five-0but on season 8 episode 4 on Friday night the man is back!

When you last saw this character, his goal at the moment was rather simple: Trying to train to become a part of Steve McGarrett’s Task Force after serving time in the military. Steve eventually relented to his requests, making it clear that there could be a spot for him in the event he is able to complete one of the necessary parts of training program — watching him go through the Academy. Given that Tani Rey got thrown out of here it wasn’t necessarily a sure thing that he would pass.

So … is he going to pass? Judging from the sneak peek below it seems that he is one of the best possible recruits that the Academy has ever seen, but there could be some other problems that the team runs into in the process. Is he almost too polished — or a little too much like McGarrett in terms of his ambition? He’s certainly eager to get the job done and a big part of this probably just stems from some of his own military training. This is someone who has been obviously pushed to the limit in the past, and that helps him be prepared for whatever could be thrown his way now in the present.

One of the larger questions that Hawaii Five-0 could be taking on next as we move into the remainder of the episode, and possibly the season, is now this: Is Junior almost too eager to take on this role? If there is a principal concern we have ovr this character at the moment, it may just be that he is almost too excited for his own good to be out there fighting the good fight. A little bit of eagerness goes a long way but if you’re too eager, that in turn could suggest that you’ve got an ulterior motive. Maybe we’ve watched too many crime shows and we’re nervous that there could be something secret underneath the surface. We hope not given that we do like Junior and he has an infectious enthusiasm. Let’s just hope that his ambition is mostly a byproduct of that and nothing else.

(Also, it’s good to see that the show is finding ways to loop in Kamekona into the story now that Taylor Wily is a series regular.)
