Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 5 preview: Brooke Shields is back; big Carisi story

Are you ready for Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 5 to air on NBC next week? The title for this episode is “Complicated,” and that makes sense. This is going to be one of the trickier installments of the show for Peter Scanavino’s character of Carisi, and for good reason given that the character puts his foot in his mouth and, in turn, gets himself in a good bit of trouble. The thing about this character is that he is someone who shoots from the hip, and there are many times in which we find this to be one of his greatest strengths.

Yet, at the same time there are also plenty of times in which doing this does cause the character some frustration, and you will certainly be seeing that here. Not only that, but the synopsis below gives you a sense both of the case and the return of Brooke Shields as Noah’s grandmother.

Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 5 synopsis – “A ten-year-old kidnapping case is reopened when a young woman is found wandering Central Park alone. Meanwhile, Carisi’s (Peter Scanavino) conversation with a newspaper reporter puts him in hot water. Also starring Mariska Hargitay (Lt. Olivia Benson), Ice T (Det. Odafin Tutuola), Kelli Giddish (Det. Amanda Rollins) and Raul Esparza (ADA Rafael Barba). Guest starring Brooke Shields, Peter Hermann, Ili Ray, Mike Faist , Jane Houdyshell and Isaiah Thomas.”

Yes, you did read that correctly — Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas is in fact appearing in this episode! He was on the show’s set in New York City many weeks ago filming this installment.

As for Shields coming back for more story in this episode, it’s something that we’ve seen coming and anticipated ever since we first learned who she was. This seems to be the sort of storyline that SVU will stretch out for most of the year, and for now it also does look like a serious hurdle for Olivia Benson. How does she overcome something like this? It’s someone of Noah’s blood who seems to be ready to fight for what she believes in.

The promo below focused more on the case of the week than anything mentioned here, and also a question: Is the “missing woman” who has returned really the same woman as all? We’re very interested in learning!
