Hap and Leonard season 3 production begins; Corbin Bernsen, more join
Late last month, production on the third season started up on the upcoming batch of episodes, which are going to be based on the book The Two-Bear Mambo written by Joe R. Lansdale. We hadn’t had a chance to share before now some of the first casting news for the season, so why not touch on that a little bit right now?
Louis Gossett Jr. – The Roots actor is going to be taking on the role of Bacon, described as “a veterinarian-turned-cook at the local diner.” In speaking about the role, he had the following to say: “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Hap and Leonard family – especially getting the opportunity to work with Michael Kenneth Williams again, whom I consider a son. It’s now come full circle.”
Andrew Dice Clay – The actor and comedian will be playing Sonny Knox, the “town’s politically incorrect radio disc jockey.” Judging from his statement he’s already a rather big fan of the show: “I can’t wait roll up my pants and dredge through this rollercoaster of a season with the likes of Hap and Leonard. I just love this show!”
Corbin Bernsen – Finally, the Psych and Major League actor will be playing “Chief Cantuck, the foul-mouthed, morally ambiguous head of the Grovetown Police department.” He had the following to say on that: “I’m thrilled to join this gem of a show and superb cast that, like so many projects I’ve been associated with in the past, is like a fine wine… time to pop the cork and share with the world.”
Laura Allen – The American Horror Story actress will be playing an East Texas cop in Officer Reynolds who has a history of bigotry.
Chris Harding – Finally, the musician harding will play both L.C. Soothe as well as his grandson Bobby Joe. Both men have had encounters with Klan.
When you think about what makes Hap and Leonard great, the characters are the foundation for almost everything. With that, we know that showrunner John Wirth and the producers are going to find some great ways to implement some of these people into the show. They’ll bring some humor and heart to the proceedings and help present a pretty rich tapestry for our title characters (played by James Purefoy and Michael K. Williams) to explore more.
