The Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 4 video: Sheldon, Howard ‘bond’
In this episode the two characters are going to forge a relatively unlikely bond thanks to something that they both care about deeply in rockets. They view them as something tied deeply to their childhood, and in one way or another they view them as connections to their fathers. This is far from the first time that Howard has shared some memories of his dad, who left him and his mother at an early age. We’ve learned a little bit about him over the years, including that he went off and started a new family somewhere else.
However, what we haven’t had a chance to learn as of yet is more news regarding whether or not we will ever meet Howard’s father in the flesh on the show. It’s something that does feel possible just because we’ve gotten to see so many connections to him over time; yet, we never saw Howard’s mother onscreen save for a tiny glimpse and there could be something to the show keeping that tradition going when it comes to his father, as well. (Technically, though, the series is doing something similar with his daughter Halley.)
As for Sheldon’s father, we don’t think it’s intentional that we are hearing about this character right now given the fact that Young Sheldon is now on the air. Given that this show is going to flesh out George Cooper Sr. in a way that we haven’t seen on the flagship show to date maybe there is an added sort of responsibility that The Big Bang Theory is going to feel in order to tell this story and give us more of an understanding regarding who this man was and what some of the finer notes of his relationship with Sheldon was. We know that he was not a good father and he did a lot of unfortunate things to him; however, there probably were some good times sprinkled in with all of the bad and this is some content that the show could work to explore a little bit more over time. Hopefully, we will have some opportunities to see this story play out in due time.
