Chicago Fire season 6 spoilers: The joy in Casey’s promotion

Casey's promotion

On this past episode of Chicago Fire season 6 we saw some big news that came in the form of Casey’s promotion. He is no longer a Lieutenant for Firehouse 51! As a result of the bravery and the quick thinking that he showed in order to save the life of someone in need on Thursday night he found himself promoted to Captain. He is moving up the ranks at the Fire Department and while he may not be running his own firehouse just yet he is getting closer to that. At the top of the pyramid here is the title of Chief, and there are some big things that could go along with this honor if Matt is able to make it there. For one, it’s a chance for him to be safe; another, it’s an opportunity to have a career that is as stable as stable could be.

Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Derek Haas notes that in the end, Dawson will be happy for this or any promotion that eventually puts her husband in a better spot:

“It’s something that [Dawson] wants for him … She thinks that him getting promoted and getting up to chief means a lot more behind-the-desk [work] and standing outside of incidents instead of running into burning buildings.”

Does Dawson have a job that is equally dangerous? Maybe not in the day to day, but we do know that on the next new episode airing on Thursday night is going to feature her in a life-or-death situation. the thing for both of these characters is simply this: They have jobs that put their lives on the line. They may not want it to be forever this way, but if they were afraid of a little bit of risk there is a good chance that they wouldn’t have chosen this job for a career in the first place. There have to be some much safer jobs out there for them to have taken on, right?

Ultimately, we’ll see what happens when it comes to Casey’s status within the FD as the season goes on. After all, we are at present just a few installments into the season!
