Longmire season 6 premiere: Should Henry be rescued?

Longmire season 6 trailer

With the Longmire season 6 premiere officially coming our way on Friday, November 17, isn’t it time to have more speculation?

If you go back and watch the season 6 trailer (we wrote about it here at CarterMatt over at the link here), one of the big questions at the center of it revolved around one Henry Standing Bear. Did he survive much of what transpired with Malachi Strand at the end of the fifth season? That was one of the most violent, horrifying cliffhangers that we’ve seen on this show, but it does inject a certain sense of urgency into the series. While some stories — like Walt’s wrongful-death lawsuit, are a little bit of a slow burn, there is a tremendous sense of urgency with this one. The producers have to resolve this story fairly early on since otherwise, it’ll distract you from everything else that is going on.

So will the Longmire writers make the right move and resolve the Henry story sooner rather than later? There are many reasons to be hopeful, starting with that fact that in this trailer you see Walt acting out in order to ensure that Henry is okay. This is a reminder that when the chips are down, these are characters who do care deeply for one another. Remember that Walt and Henry were at each other’s throats early and often during the end of last season, and it even resulted in a pretty vicious fight. Yet, in the end Walt’s still going to be there for him. (We like to think that the photo above is Walt in the process of trying to hunt him down.)

This is why we think that Longmire will resolve everything with Henry’s fate in the first episode. For one, logically he wouldn’t survive all that long in the middle of nowhere bleeding out. Also, there are probably other stories for Lou Diamond Phillips to take on as this character. Not only does the show need to resolve what happened here, but they also likely need to figure out some ways to ensure that he has more of a proper endgame down the road. Whether it be as Hector or working with the tribal policy, Henry’s story is one that seems to be far from over. Killing him now, when he is a touchstone for so many different characters, would be too hard of a pill to swallow.

We’ll see in just over a month what happens, and from now until then, be prepared for a number of other teases on upcoming storylines.

Do you think Henry will be saved during the premiere?

If he does, do you think that he’ll ever be the same? These sort of life-or-death experiences can change a couple, after all! Share now in the comments below!
