Saturday Night Live return date: Larry David, Miley Cyrus returning

Saturday Night Live return date

For those wondering the Saturday Night Live return date following this weekend’s Kumail Nanjiani episode, we’re happy to provide some details!

Per NBC, the November 4 episode will feature Larry David returning to host the show for the second time. This news comes in the midst of his show Curb Your Enthusiasm returning to HBO after a hiatus of six years, and it also marks the first time that David has returning to Studio 8H since being there and hosting mostly as a result of his Bernie Sanders impression. The last time that we saw David proved to be one of the show’s best episodes — his status as a writer is probably one of the reasons for that given that he can offer up some input in the room that suits some of his strengths. (David did write for Saturday Night Live for a year in the 1980’s, so he has a connection that extends far past the days of Bern Your Enthusiasm and his famed impression.)

As for the musical guest for November 4 you will be seeing the return of Miley Cyrus. This is the third time that Cyrus (who has also hosted in the past) will be taking on this role, and it feels all but assured that she will cameo in a sketch somewhere. She’s too talented of a performer not to, and the only bummer now is that she’s coming on after the exit of Vanessa Bayer. During her early tenure on SNL one of Bayer’s signature sketches was “The Miley Cyrus Show,” at least back before the “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” eras began for the performer. (Let’s just say the image changed after that.)

For Cyrus there is clearly a little bit of cross-promotion also at work here given that The Voice is currently in the midst of its latest season, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we’ve also seen both Adam Levine and Blake Shelton host SNL in the past. NBC wants to promote their stuff! Why wouldn’t they?

Given the lengthy hiatus the next couple of weeks we anticipate that there will be some opportunities in order for the writers to generate some new material; we’ve enjoyed most of season 43 so far at CarterMatt — there’s been some comedy throughout and while some sketches have clearly been duds that’s mostly the case for every single season. We don’t want to pretend as though what we’re seeing so far is representative of something different. There will be some political humor and then some assorted nonsense thrown in for good measure.

What do you want to see from Larry David’s second stint hosting Saturday Night Live, and do you believe that Miley Cyrus is the perfect musical guest at this time? Be sure to share in the comments!
