Good Behavior season 2 episode 1 preview: Letty, Javier’s future
This is the thing with this show: Despite whatever promises may have been made in the past we have a feeling that it’s going to be hard for these characters to change their stripes all that much. Javier and Letty are going to do everything that they can — at first — to move forward. How is that going to work? Let’s just say not all that well. These people are almost addicts in their own unusual way. They’ve done the same thing for the vast majority of their lives and it’s going to be really hard for either one of them to deviate from that all that much. They have to figure out how to put the past in the past, but then there’s also the weird thing where we as viewers don’t really want for them to put their past in the past. Why is that? Well, a big part of it traces back to what this show is. Javier is a killer, whereas Letty is a thief. This is their identity, and it’s in part why we are watching this show. A big source of the dramatic tension comes in seeing how they try to break free of that.
The premiere episode on Sunday night is poised to be a big one — the title here is “The Heart Attack is the Best Way,” and all early indications suggest that this is going to be a story very much about Javier and Letty re-starting their lives. Judging from the fact that showrunner Chad Hodge is penning this one, it should give you a sense of how much value he is putting into getting this story off on the right foot almost immediately.
The synopsis below, meanwhile, offers up a little more news in the way of what’s coming:
“With Jacob (Nyles Julian Steele) finally in their custody, Letty (Michelle Dockery) and Javier (Juan Diego Botto) settle in a quaint beach town. Only, Letty is still stealing and Javier is still killing. When a hit goes wrong for Javier, and he discovers someone is trying to kill him, Letty is forced to face the reality of being in a relationship with a hitman while trying to lead a “normal” life.”
Obviously things are not going to work out all that well for these characters and there will be struggles; the tension lies with what they’re going to do on the other side of these struggles.
If we do have a good question worth pondering over, it’s this: Will the show make more of an imprint for itself on Sunday night in a new timeslot? We certainly hope so, given it’s one of the most thoroughly entertaining shows out there.

I love this show … Michelle Dockery has done a masterful job in putting the image of Lady Mary well and truly out of my mind. However, the casting of Jacob continues to confound. The young actor is wonderful but is not bi- racial. Is this a big deal? Yes. Anyone with any knowledge of biology knows that Jacob, given his parentage, could not possibly look like the actor cast. This same kind of issue was prevalent in the Cosby show. African-American viewers, such as myself, wonder why ” Hollywood” casting directors are either ignorant of or do not care to let the above reality inform their decisions. The worst case scenario is that they have assumed that ” black” viewers are not a part of their target audience and ,therefore, the issue has no relevance.
As a example: I am a huge Outlander fan, loved Downtown Abbey, and have never watched one episode of Power. There are millions of us who defy the stereotype of ” what black folks watch”…
I will continue to watch Good Behavior… But, with some diminished enthusiasm.
