Outlander season 3: Richard Rankin mum on Roger reprisal this year
While we obviously know that Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton both are going to be a major part of Outlander season 4, what about this season? Are the two parties officially done with appearing in scenes for the rest of the year?
At the moment, you can clearly make the argument that the story for Roger and Brianna is done for the time being — after all, Claire is back in Scotland, and with that technically the mission of these characters is complete … or is it? We don’t want to give anything major away about upcoming seasons of the Starz series but it is already very well-documented that Roger and Bree have a substantial role in season 4. Could there be more that comes their way in season 3?
For the record, Richard Rankin himself is being as coy as humanly possible on the subject, and the latest tweet that he has posted on social media is (a part of a lengthy Q&A session he did with fans) is prime evidence of that very thing. We do know that we would love to see more of Rankin as Roger this season, and we do think there are some ways that it could happen while working alongside Skelton.
In thinking on that subject for a moment, don’t you think that there are some hard times coming for Brianna? She has lost both her father and her mother effectively in a short period of time, and she will need someone to lean on. Roger is that person, and given that she is Claire’s daughter we have a hard time thinking that she just disappears and we’re not meant to think about her on the show. We’re at a point now where she’s an integral part of the story one way or another.
It would make some sense to get some updates interspersed during her journey to recover from all of the recent events in her life; or, we could also envision Claire having something akin to dream sequences where she starts to wonder more in terms of what is happening with her daughter. This would be a chance to show how important she is to her, even while she is getting the opportunity to live her new life Jamie. Given that Claire seemed to approve of Roger, it’s not hard to speculate that she would want Roger to be at her side.
We’re looking at this entire debate from a spoiler-free perspective in terms of the book Voyager. After all, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the show could different from the book in how they want to present some of this material to begin with.
