‘Shiptober: Should Chicago Fire season 6 bring Severide, Stella closer?
These two characters have certainly had their highs and lows ever since Miranda Rae Mayo first signed on to the show as Stella. They were at one point romantically intertwined, and then developed more of a friendship after that. Stella was there for Kelly in the midst of his relationship with Anna. He’s mourned her death and now seems to be back to being the Kelly Severide of old — which really just means running around and sleeping with a wide array of people across the city of Chicago.
Now, Severide and Stella have forged another new relationship once more: Roommates. She has officially moved in with him after a run-in with their landlord, and the two are once again building their friendship.
Could this turn into a relationship once more? The biggest obstacle standing in its way at the moment is Hope, mostly because Hope seems to be doing anything and everything in her power in order to ensure that the two parties don’t end up together. She’s getting herself inserted into firehouse life, flirting with Kelly at every opportunity, and also really disregarding anyone and everyone in her way. Stella’s noticed this and she is a source of great frustration for her.
It’s wrong to call Stella’s actions towards Hope as those of jealousy — after all, she didn’t act anywhere near the same way towards Anna! This isn’t about someone being jealous; it’s instead about someone trying to look out for someone else who is a good friend and sensing a reason for concern. Hope’s real motives are not entirely clear. If she is only planning to stay for a short period of time, why is she trying to integrate herself so much into the firehouse and into a relationship with Kelly? There are warning signs and since Severide isn’t seeing them she’s doing her best to step into that role instead.
We enjoy talking about a wide array of relationships in our CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series, and what is so interesting about Stella / Severide is that we could see it going in so many directions. There would be something cool about the two getting together again someday after the relationship not working out the first time — it’d show that sometimes a great friendship can really build into something more in an organic way. However, there is also something to be said for exes who just so happen to get along. It’s still somewhat of a rarity within the TV world.
