Wisdom of the Crowd ratings fall without football; Madam Secretary okay
The good news is that the show managed to stay above fractional on Sunday with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. However, that may be the only bit of good news that we have to report. This is a drop of around 25% from the premiere in the demo, and to go along with this it’s a lower rating than NCIS: Los Angeles got at any point last fall. (It posted a 1.0 in this timeslot when it was there earlier this year, but that’s it.)
Given that this is a show just in its second episode there is a chance that the ratings fall more, though obviously we hope that doesn’t happen. Our biggest concern with the show remains its title, which is abstract and won’t roll off the tongue for viewers making quick, impulsive viewership decisions. We do think that these sort of things matter, perhaps far more at times than many of us often choose to claim they do.
In the end, the decision on the future of Wisdom of the Crowd will probably come many weeks from now. For the time being the biggest thing that we would express is the utmost in patience.
As for the Madam Secretary season 4 premiere ratings
This is also a case where you’ve got a mixed bag. At first glance you may look at the 0.8 rating it produced in the demo last night and comment on how low it is. However, compared to many other shows that have aired in this timeslot on CBS over the years it’s really not all that bad. It’s even with the Elementary premiere from last fall, but up from the 0.6 average the show posted for most of last season. We do think Madam Secretary will top that and when you consider a recent streaming deal that it earned there’s a reasonably good chance that you’re going to be seeing more of this show for many more weeks to come.
For those wondering…
NCIS: Los Angeles also fell last night to a 1.0 rating, tying its lowest rating from all of last season. Meanwhile, Ten Days in the Valley (0.4) fell by a sizable margin in its second week and we are quickly starting to fear that it will be the first new show of the fall to go despite the star power of one Kyra Sedgwick.
As for some good news, The Simpsons found itself on the rise this week and finished with a 2.2 rating. It did of course benefit from NFL football, but it often does at this time of the year.
