The Last Ship season 5 trailer: A cyber-attack causes chaos
If you look below, you can see some of the first official footage of the upcoming stretch of episodes airing in 2018. At first glance, everything is going to appear okay for Tom Chandler and the crew of the Nathan James — after all, they’re not the last ship anymore! There are other ships in the fleet, and it’s looking as though America is starting to get itself together once more after a really devastating series of events. The famine is gone, and the cure for the virus is out there.
Unfortunately, someone has figured out a way once more to devastate the James and, in turn, the country — this time around, it’s coming via a cyber-attack. We supposed that nobody can be too surprised by any of this given that we’re looking at a world where terrible things always tend to happen. However, at this point we can’t imagine that such a thing was really on anyone’s radar. Just think for a moment about everything that the Nathan James crew have gone through. Did you really anticipate that they were going to have to deal with something like this in the process? It probably wasn’t at the forefront of their mind.
Judging from the trailer one of the things that we’re also going to see is an uprising like no other — get ready for some violence, some drama, and in the end potentially a few more surprises that you don’t see coming. It’s The Last Ship, and with that there’s an expectation that you have to meet in order to deliver.
Is The Last Ship season 5 the end of the road?
We do think that it’s notable that TNT does not mention that this is the final season of the show, which is basically them keeping their options open. We’d love it if there is a season 6, but we’re entering next summer with the expectation that the end is near. With actors being freed up to pursue other projects and with the show’s season 4 ratings down, all of this suggests that TNT is preparing to let this ship sail off into the sunset. (Also, the fifth season won’t feature an enormous cliffhanger, a sign that it’s being written to serve as a series finale if need be.)
