Poldark season 3 episode 2 (PBS): The Drake, Morwenna love story begins

Poldark season 3 episode 2

What is love within the world of Poldark? Is it a small piece of the puzzle, or something essential and widespread?

If you look at season 3 episode 2, which aired on PBS this Sunday, you may be more inclined to say that it is the latter. This is a show that loves romance, and we do think that all parties involved know that it’s a core component to the show’s success. Everyone who watches this show loves to see someone fall in love in some shape or form. Over the first season that someone was Ross and Demelza — though there were and are still Elizabeth troubles. Meanwhile, over the second season you could focus that attention a little bit more on the characters of Caroline and Dwight for that. Moving into season 3 you know that these two characters love each other, even if they have some other troubles, so someone out there (maybe author Winston Graham?) may have felt that the time was right to pivot again.

With the Morwenna and Drake relationship, which began in earnest tonight with an encounter between the two, you’re going to have a chance to see this blossom out and for that void of a good love story to be stilled. While Ross/Demelza and Dwight/Caroline are still parts of this story, there is less drama around whether or not they will be together at this point. They’ve already weathered some of the storms. With these two, it’s clear that we have not made it anywhere close to that yet. They’re only beginning, and there is something still innocent and sweet about them. They’re untouched by the world and don’t quite understand the pain and sorrow that can come from loving someone in this time when there are so many different forces at play.

Poldark season 3 episode 2 was effective in many different things, but we think setting up this story will be one of the things that it is most remembered for. The most unfortunate thing for Morwenna is that she is at Trenwith mostly because of the ever-loathsome George Warleggan, and if there’s one thing we know about him, it’s that he loves to make people suffer who he perceives as the enemy. If Morwenna starts to spend a lot of time with someone who is Ross Poldark’s brother-in-law, don’t you think that there is going to be a certain said perception that forms?
