Call the Midwife 2017 Christmas Special: Expect one chilly episode
In speaking on this matter per the Radio Times, series executive producer Pippa Harris dropped a rather icy hint on the state of Poplar when we get a chance to see the show back on the air:
“There’s come great material coming up … Of course, there was the Big Freeze which took place during the period we’ll be covering in the next Christmas Special, so that’s something to watch out for”
What’s so notable about the Big Freeze? It was a particularly icy winter in the United Kingdom, and it should be rather fun to see how that is manifested within the series itself. Our feeling is that you’ll see it impact the characters in many different ways, given that it not only could impact how they travel to work, but also the state of the mothers they are caring for. They may in turn have to make more house calls, and it will set everything back in terms of time. This certainly isn’t a bad thing, since proper time and care is one of the things that many of the midwives in Nonnatus fought for over the course of the sixth season.
Season 7 of Call the Midwife begins proper in early 2017, and it fell feature new arrivals, advancements, patients, and of course moral debates. This is a show that loves to challenge conventional and to show the subtle movement of change through time. Hopefully it’ll be hopeful, emotional, and everything else great that we’ve come to expect from this series over time.
