Saturday Night Live promo: Kenan Thompson, Sam Smith, Gal Gadot, and confusion
The video below features show host Gal Gadot alongside cast member Kenan Thompson and also musical guest Sam Smith. This is the first hosting appearance from Gadot on the show, and the Wonder Woman star should shine in this environment. There’s obviously a lot of humor to mine from the big-budget movie (there always is with these sort of things), but we also have a feeling that Smith probably could do a musical sketch somewhere in here if he really wanted to. There is a history of Smith-related spoofs on SNL already — he has performed there before, but Taran Killam also did a memorable impression of him leading into a cameo from Mike Meyers as Dr. Evil. It’s too bad that Taran isn’t on the show anymore since that could lead to a few funny moments between the two.
One of the strange things about this promo is the simple fact that it actually seems to be geared more around Smith than it does Gadot, as Kenan makes a joke about his makeup in comparison to Gadot’s; meanwhile, he also then confuses him with a different Sam Smith that he went to school with. Basically, confused Kenan is one of the best versions of Kenan.
We do think that SNL got off to a fairly solid premiere last week with Ryan Gosling. Even if the character did have a nasty habit of breaking time and time again most of the sketches around him were solid; not only that, but Gosling is great doing some of the pre-taped pieces and we do think that he really does have a lot of fun when he is on the show. Provided that Gal seems to be enjoying herself as much as Ryan did, we’ve got a feeling that this will be a rather fantastic show at the end of the day.
As for how much politics is going to play a role this week, we’re honestly not sure — there hasn’t been too much of a discussion as to whether or not Alec Baldwin is going to return with his impression of Donald Trump or not.
