Criminal Minds season 13 episode 3 change: ‘Blue Angel’ airing October 11

Blue Angel

If you find yourself confused about Criminal Minds season 13 episode 3 being a little bit different than what you envisioned going in next week, there’s a reason for that.

We reported on CarterMatt Wednesday night that the next new episode of the show (airing on October 11) would be “Killer App” based on some of the promotional material out there. However, CBS has now altered this so that the already-filmed episode “Blue Angel” will be airing in its place. There is no reason given for the swap (there is also no confirmed air date for “Killer App” as of right now), but this something that CBS is doing with a number of their shows and episodes at present. One of the biggest reasons for this may be the direct result of them trying to change things up in the aftermath of the horrific attacks in Las Vegas. Some episodes on CBS tend to be a little more violent than others and some of these moves may be coming out of sensitivity to that. Of course, the challenge with a show like Criminal Minds is that it’s inherently a violent show where UnSubs do terrible things on a regular basis. No one is rooting for them to continue to do said unspeakable things, but you do need a certain degree of awareness about it going into each episode.

Was this still the right move for CBS to make, provided that they are making it for the reasons speculated? We believe so just for the sake of trying to make everyone comfortable.

Now, you can get a few more details regarding the “Blue Angel” episode by taking a look at the attached synopsis:

“When successful businessmen in Detroit are targeted by an anger-driven power-assertive Unsub, the BAU is called in to investigate, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Oct. 11 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.”

The photo above featuring Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) is from this episode — it could be an interesting installment but in true Criminal Minds fashion we’re not given all that much about the story beyond the location and what the UnSub does in order to torment some of their victims. This is something that we imagine there will be some additional news on as the story gets a little bit closer.

In general, though, we do think Criminal Minds is probably right to return to their roots for at least the start of the season after taking some big swings with the Spencer Reid arc in the second half of season 12. We wouldn’t be opposed to seeing something similar soon, but there is merit to the show finding a way to incorporate Daniel Henney and reestablish their group chemistry first.

Do you think “Blue Angel” could be a worthy episode?
