Saturday Night Live – Gal Gadot promo: Beck Bennett learns to fly

Dave Chappelle

The first Saturday Night Live – Gal Gadot promo is here leading up to this weekend’s show, and this one is certainly a lot of fun.

It’s also, quite predictably, what we imagined that a promo from the Wonder Woman star would look like. This movie is her breakout role and the producers are going to do their best to lean into that. That’s why the bulk of this entire promo revolves around a stunt in which she busts through the wall of Studio 8H and causes cast member Beck Bennett to fly against the wall.

If the majority of this weekend’s show does feature some sort of silly slapstick humor and allows its host to be silly and get fully immersed into the process, it’s going to be hart to be upset about it. This is Gadot’s first time hosting the show and as a result of that, we don’t think that it needs to do anything all that insane or surprising. Just allow her to have a good time and get comfortable given that we don’t know what her overall experience or comfort level is being around a show like this doing live comedy. We know that she was certainly engaging during some of her late-night comedy stops promoting the movie, so we do know that there is a good bit of potential for her to come on the show and deliver.

If there is one thing that we can say is somewhat problematic about this promo, it’s that Gadot clearly was never in the same room as some of the other cast members. You never see her in the actual same frame as any of them — also, the special effects are hokey, but we didn’t expect to see some sort of crazy-amazing effects for a show that has to turn things around in a matter of days, if not hours.

Gadot is going to be joined on this week’s episode by none other than Sam Smith — he has performed on the show before but we don’t have any sort of huge expectations that he will appear in a sketch. This is more of a reintroduction for him to the American market — it’s been a while since he has released music and he’s now coming back with an opportunity to spotlight some of his latest.

What do you think of this new Gal Gadot promo?

Technically limitations for the promo aside, does this make you more hopeful that her show is going to turn out to be a really entertaining one? Be sure to share some of your thoughts on that subject right now in the comments!
