Shameless season 8 episode 1 spoilers: First details for what’s ahead!

Are you ready for Shameless season 8 episode 1 to be here? It’s coming later this fall and judging from what we know, it’s going to be every bit as eventful as you would expect.

If you recall, the end of the seventh season saw the Gallagher family losing someone who was very important to their life at one point: Monica. Her death is a watershed moment on the show and it makes sense that everyone would handle it differently. The same goes for how everyone chooses to handle some of what she left behind for them: Drugs, and plenty of them. Basically, some characters may try to do what they can to use them for money, while some others are probably going to just smoke them ’cause they got them.

Take a look, per SpoilerTV, at what is coming up next:

“The Gallaghers find themselves with money to burn as Carl sells their inheritance from Monica. Meanwhile, Fiona swears off random hookups to focus on her new apartment building; Lip deals with the sacrifice that comes with sobriety; and Frank emerges out of a meth-induced haze to make amends for decades of depravity.”

One of the things that has been both funny and also tragic about Shameless over the years is how little these characters actually seem to change, even though they may want to do so. A good example of that is Fiona, who has found herself in a series of bad relationships. You hope that this is the time now where she starts to change, but is there really that clear of a sign that things are going to be different now? You can wonder the same thing about Lip’s sobriety and also Frank being … well, Frank.

Technically, Frank is the biggest problem for the entire family in that he is a man who holds true to virtually nothing. It’s almost impossible to have a lot of confidence in the capacity for some of these people to change when the person at the top isn’t showing any real willingness at all. So long as Frank keeps being Frank, it’s hard for anyone to escape that shadow. Is he a changed man? Maybe, but the assumption that we’re going to make more at the moment is that he is a guy who is simply upset about the fact that he has run out of meth and is simply changing his personality as a way to offset that.
