The Flash season 4 spoilers: The new STAR Labs dynamic

STAR Labs

What are things going to be like when it comes to STAR Labs on The Flash season 4? The team will have the same goal in the end. However, what’s going to be a little bit different is seeing just how they get from point A over to point B. They’re going to have to figure some of that out with Iris now in charge and with Barry Allen coming back to Central City — we certainly feel as though he’s going to be excited and ambitious to be back around, but this could also be a very different Barry than before. When you’re in a place like the Speed Force for the period of time in which he was there, you do have to imagine that this does something to a person. Over the first episode or two this season we could get a better chance to see what some of that is.

Want a little more news about how STAR Labs is going to operate, especially when it comes to Barry seeing Iris West in the position of team lead? You don’t have to look any further than what executive producer Todd Helbing had to say to TVLine:

“it’s a new dynamic that he’s walking into, so there’s a big learning curve. It’s not just Cisco and Wells behind the command station, it’s the woman he loves. It’s going to take a bit of time for him to get used to that.”

The advantage of Iris being in charge at the lab is that she tends to look at things from a logical standpoint. She’s not a creator of gadgets or someone who can rely on superpowers. Basically she has to rely on her own street-smarts and looking at things from an investigative standpoint to solve problems. There’s something important about having someone without powers or significant tech skills in the lead role; she can’t view either one of these things as a crutch.

Are we confident that there are going to be some bumps in the road? Probably, given that this is a show where there is always going to be conflict. Yet, there’s no immediate reason to worry about a leadership struggle at STAR Labs dooming the relationship between Barry and Iris. After all, they are set to have a wedding a little bit later this season as presumably a part of the four-part crossover event.
