Lucifer season 3 premiere reaction: The Sinnerman’s name

Lucifer - Chloe reveal

Going into the Lucifer season 3 premiere, one of the things that we kept hearing time and time again was that a big Lucifer – Chloe reveal was coming. This was a moment that we very much needed, given that at some point we needed to see the show change the game.

For most of the premiere episode we absolutely can say that Lucifer Morningstar himself was desperate to change the game when it comes to one subject: Trying to figure out who it was who abducted him at the end of this past season. We witnessed for much of the story the search for who came to be known as the Sinnerman, the nefarious foe who scooped him up and potentially caused him to sprout wings.

For most of Lucifer’s episode we saw what can be best described as a wild-goose chase, where he went around to various people in order to figure out what exactly happened. Unfortunately, the whole lead of the kidnapping didn’t end up going anywhere beyond knowing the name Sinnerman. As Lucifer was told you don’t find the Sinnerman — he finds you instead. Good luck with that.

The irony about Lucifer’s darker storyline in this episode is that despite everything that happened in the premiere, the team got their guy … at least briefly.

Elsewhere in the episode, Tom Welling made a compelling debut as Marcus Pierce, and we fear for him already given how many Deckerstar ‘shippers are probably going to be angered by his mere presence. It’s also interesting to have a strong, formidable police officer who the show who isn’t connected to some of the craziness that is going on — we absolutely do consider it to be an interesting change. We also loved that he was relatively indifferent to much of what Chloe had to say in regards to her feelings towards Lucifer at the end of the episode.

Now, did that Lucifer – Chloe reveal happen?

Well, not exactly, and we hold firm to our belief that the show just needs to get everything out in the opening regarding who he is so that they can move forward — provided of course that this is what they are meant to do. At the moment, the two characters do feel stuck in a degree of stasis.

The big reveal that we did get at the end of the episode instead was seeing the Sinnerman claim a victim in Lucifer’s kidnapper, a clear sign that they don’t want to run the risk of anyone finding them or giving up information. Given the way that said kidnapper died, the journey to locate them won’t be easy.
