New Vikings season 5 trailer hints at massive power struggle
Interested in taking a look at a new Vikings season 5 trailer via History? Let’s just say that at the forefront of this one is a power struggle.
This trailer (which you can see at CarterMatt courtesy of series star Katheryn Winnick) focuses on the all-important question of “who will rise,” something that is interspersed with various images and footage of some of the show’s main characters. We’re not sure that we would say that there is a vacuum of leadership on the History series; instead, it feels almost as though there are so many leaders that nobody knows who should actually have the title. There are more battles coming up, and as a result of that we anticipate a bold, brutal, and violent season of the show. The death of Ragnar is really only the beginning given that it enables his sons to jostle over power. Ivar is especially ruthless, and we’re terrified already to think of some of what he could do in some of the episodes coming up.
As for some of the other characters, this preview does give you a small sense of the show’s overall global scale — Bjorn will be spending part of his story in the desert, which brings to the show a very different color palette. While the majority of the series is set in Ireland, you will see an array of different backdrops and environments this time around as Michael Hirst and the producers look to create a broader landscape. As more characters rise to prominence, they will look to expand more of their reach.
History is going to be more than likely on an all-out blitz in promotion of this season, which makes a good degree of sense given that the ratings for Vikings remain strong, the show airs all over the world, and they have enough confidence in the story at this point that they have decided to go ahead and renew the show for a sixth season. The fifth season has twenty episodes, with the first batch of episodes carrying over from this fall into the new year.
Is this the most revealing trailer in the world? Not exactly, since it is more about character portraits and highlighting action than it is actually expressing anything that is coming up story-wise in the upcoming batch of episodes. It’s main goal is to generate hype, and from the basis of that alone we’d consider it to be a success.
