Ray Donovan season 5 episode 9 spoilers: Natalie makes Ray the story

When Ray Donovan season 5 episode 9 airs on Showtime come October 8, Ray will find himself in a unique spot. As a matter of fact, this is a spot so unique that he’s never quite been in it before. He’s going to have to figure out how to navigate the very different position when he can’t just be the fixer. He has to figure out how to fix his own problem: Himself being in the headlines.

The beauty that comes in hiring Ray the majority of the time is that he lives within a certain degree of anonymity. Nobody quite knows who he is, and as a result of that he posseses the ability to be able to navigate through tricky spots and find a way to get the job done. That is a little bit more challenging — infinitely so, really — when the vast majority of people know who you are.

Ray Donovan season 5 episode 9 synopsis – “Natalie’s fame puts Ray’s career in jeopardy when, for the first time ever, he becomes the story. Mickey and Daryll celebrate getting the greenlight on their movie. Terry prepares to leave the Fite Club behind for good. Bunchy gets in over his head; Bridget takes Smitty’s problem into her own hands; and Ray hunts down the source of Sam’s problems.”

With us being near the end of the season we imagine that all of these storylines are going to start accelerating and revving up — as a result of that, one of the questions that you need to wonder is whether or not we will finally be at the point on Ray Donovan where the title character starts to break a little bit. Are we finally getting near the point of no return? If he’s recognizable, all of a sudden it is infinitely hard to be able to work.

The new Ray Donovan promo below for the upcoming episode does a great job when it comes to raising the stakes and reminding us mostly of how dangerous and difficult it’s going to be for Ray to do his job now. Also, he’s got a pretty clear reaction to how he feels about the Natalie James news getting out: He doesn’t love it.
