Homeland season 7 spoilers: Dylan Baker of The Good Wife signs up!
Sources confirm that Baker, who you best know from either The Good Wife or Damages, is going to have a very important recurring role over the course of the seventh season — potentially as the show’s version of John McCain. He is a U.S. Senator from the Southwest who has a tendency to follow his own path — he thinks in terms of his own beliefs rather than down party lines. His name is Sam Paley, and could prove to be a thorn in the side of President Keane, who is now in power and completely abusing it.
Granted, we do understand to a certain extent why Kane would have some paranoia — someone attempted to take her life at the end of the sixth season. Yet, she still took here lack of trust to new heights by getting Saul arrested and leaving Carrie on the outside. She’s got her own small team running things, and with that, almost everyone is going to be on the outside and completely lost the majority of the time as per what some of her actual intentions are. That’s a difficult place to be, but that is where we are going to see the series when it returns.
Filming for the seventh season is already underway, and when you think about themes, one of the biggest ones here seems to be trying to figure out a way in which to survive a difficult political landscape. How do you get someone like Keane to listen, and what sort of threats is she going to be up against? Will her actions inspire a form of home-grown terrorism? It’s a scary thing to think about, but this is the world that we live in now. Homeland does have a knack for being very much relevant when it comes to current events, and we really don’t see that changing at any point in the near future. That may make the show a little too close to home for some, but this is in part what also makes it a hit.
Homeland season 7 is going to premiere in the new year. It’s a little early to get a new trailer for what lies ahead, but we figure that this is something that we’ll get a little bit more news on in due time.
